SRC Policy Regarding Tissue Studies

The following policy regarding cancer-related research studies that use human tissue / cultures has been adopted by the Scientific Review Committee (SRC) of the OU Cancer Institute:

  • The SRC will review proposals which utilize biological specimens, or their derivatives, that were collected by members of the OUHSC community. These types of studies must be submitted to the SRC for review prior to submission to the IRB.

  • The SRC will not review studies that utilize biological specimens, or their derivatives, obtained at other sites. Thus, studies that only utilize biological materials collected by non-OUHSC investigators or commercial entities do not require SRC review. These types of studies may be submitted directly to the IRB for review.

  • Materials collected by OUHSC investigators as part of a study previously reviewed and approved by the SRC may be used without additional review.

Please contact Scott McMeekin, MD, SRC Chair, or Pat Medina, PharmD, SRC Co-Chair, with any questions regarding this policy.
